The pARTy Camp Era
The Art Camp (formerly known as “The Summer Art Academy”) was founded by David Wohlstadter, who was inspired by his own children to create an arts-based day camp that aligned with their creative interests. The Summer Art Academy first opened its doors in 2003 in Van Nuys, California. Over the next four years, it operated in Bel Air and eventually in Valley Village.
In 2007, following the success of the Valley Village location, David opened a second campus at Ilan Ramon Day School in Agoura Hills, where he hired Ashley Falsnes as Camp Director to run and operate the new location. The program was eventually re-named The Art Camp, and it continued to grow in popularity year after year. The Art Camp has overcome significant challenges, including the loss of its building due to the Woolsey Fires and closure during the COVID-19 pandemic. Yet, through it all, the magic of The Art Camp never faltered.
In 2015, Ashley officially became the Camp Owner. As Art Camp expanded, she introduced "Mini Camps" for Thanksgiving, Winter, and Spring Breaks in 2017. Each year, the Art Camp Director Dream Team has continued to lead an incredible network of Teachers, Counselors, Junior Counselors, CITs, and JCITs. The dynamic Art Camp staff inspires campers of all ages to forge lasting friendships, create incredible artwork, try new things, and so much more.
This summer, 2025, marks the 18th year of Art Camp, and we know it will be the best pARTy yet!
